Agreement in principle: a double taxation agreement between France and Denmark

The last two years the Danish-French Chamber of Commerce has in collaboration with nine of the biggest Danish and nine of the biggest French compagnies, worked towards a breakthrough on the negotiation of a double taxation agreement (DTA) between France and Denmark.

Therefore, it is with great satisfaction that the two countries have reached an agreement in principle on taxation of pensions, which Can nos pave the way for the negotiation of a DTA  between France and Denmark.

For the Danish and French business and industry such an agreement will result in significant savings, partly for double taxation and partly for the reduction of administrative costs. Savings, which in total will be more than hundred million DKK to which shall be added the new possibilities for Trade and Economique cooperation,

Jens Lund, CFO at DSV: “ For DSV a DTA  will open the French transport market which, due to the double taxation and a complicated national tax system, has literally been closed for us. For several years we have in collaboration with the Danish-French Chamber of Commerce worked on making the politicians recognize the necessity of a new convention. We are delighted that we have succeeded in opening this blockage.  ”

Michael Borell Senior Vice President, North Sea & Russia and Denmark Country Chair at Total Group “ We are very pleased about the new agreement. The lack of a DTA has been a serious obstacle to recruiting the necessary manpower, as well as it has caused severe administrative difficulties. We are now looking forward to leaving these obstacles behind. For this reason, we have supported the Chamber of Commerce’s efforts to initiate negotiations. ”

Anders Torbøl, the Chairman of the Danish-French Chamber of Commerce: “ We appreciate the good cooperation we have had with the French and Danish tax authorities for nearly two years, and we are delighted that this cooperation now bears fruit. This will give a significant boost to the economical collaboration between Denmark and France. Moreover, it allows us to ensure that everyone who comes to Denmark with the Tour de France organisation in 2021 will not be double-taxed, which would be the case without a DTA.”
