IT Committee Visits Alstom’s IC5 Facility: Denmark’s Next Generation Trains

On Friday October 10, the IT Committee had the great pleasure and honor of being hosted by Alstom for an exclusive visit to the facility in Copenhagen where the first IC5 train has recently arrived. The site, which serves as a collaboration hub between Alstom and DSB, currently houses the newly delivered train and will play a key role in its testing, maintenance, and ongoing preparation for operation.

The tour offered an impressive behind-the-scenes look at the extensive work behind this historically large procurement. The IC5 project represents the largest train investment in Danish history, and with DSB’s recent decision to order an additional 50 trains, a total of 150 IC5 trains will be delivered. Starting in 2027, the first trains will enter service, with the full fleet gradually phased in over the following years. These trains are designed to replace existing long-distance fleets and significantly modernise intercity travel across Denmark.

The IC5 train, part of Alstom’s Coradia Stream family, has already attracted international attention. In June 2024, Alstom and DSB received the prestigious Red Dot Award for design excellence. With the phased delivery now underway and infrastructure preparations advancing, Denmark is on track to transform its intercity travel experience within the next few years.

A warm thank you goes to Alstom for organising and hosting the visit, and for guiding the group through the facility and answering questions about the train's technical features, maintenance setup and operational ambitions.
