L’Oréal Nordics aims at a carbon mission reduction of -30% in transport by 2023 and zero emissions by 2030.

L’Oréal Nordics wants to be in the forefront when it comes to fighting climate change;

  • By 2023 the ambition is to decrease carbon emissions from the transport of our products by 30%.
  • By 2030 we aim at achieving zero-emission for outbound transport by 2030.
  • By 2025 our sites in the Nordics will be carbon neutral and consume 25% less energy.

With its ambition to reduce its carbon emissions, L’Oréal has, since 2019, replaced fossil fueled transports of goods with electric bicycles and small electric vans in 14 cities across Sweden, Norway and Denmark. Now L’Oréal suppliers in Finland are also joining the initiative. Other initiatives to reduce emissions linked to transport is a move from fossil fuels to biogas and hydrotreated vegetable oil, reduction of air in transports and train transportation for long distance deliveries to name a few examples.

“At L’Oréal in the Nordics we made several improvements in all sites related to the four key areas: waste, water, biodiversity and carbon emissions. We have had a strong focus on our DC in Greve where we decreased carbon emissions by 81%, water consumption by 22% and waste creation by 55%. Furthermore, we have converted our energy consumption to reach more than 80% renewable energy consumption in the distribution center and our administrative sites,says Jeanett Holm Thiesen, Nordic Sustainability Lead at L’Oréal in the Nordics.

The new Nordic sustainability targets are fully in line with the L’Oréal group targets and the new sustainability program L’Oréal For The Future that was launched in June last year.

The challenges the planet is facing are unprecedented, and it is essential to accelerate our efforts to preserve a safe operating space for humanity. We have set ourselves bold, measurable targets for 2030 on climate, water, biodiversity and natural resources, in accordance with what scientific experts demand and what our planet needs. Our new commitments will not just focus on our direct impact. They will also tackle our indirect, extended impact, related, for example, to the activity of our suppliers and the use of our products by consumers, and therefore we will need all our stakeholders with us on this journey” says Tomas Hruska, Managing Director, L’Oréal Nordics.
