TotalEnergies enters the Danish market for electric vehicle charging

TotalEnergies has been selected as one of the contractors by the Danish Road Directorate to develop an electric vehicle charging infrastructure along the national road network. This year, TotalEnergies will install its first fast-charging stations in Thisted, Denmark, making electric vehicle charging more accessible for locals and visitors.

The new chargers in Thisted are part of a larger nationwide rollout of fast-charging facilities by the Danish Road Directorate. Specifically, TotalEnergies will operate four fast-charging points, placed on two charging stations, each with a capacity of 300 kilowatts. The charging stations are expected to be fully operational and available for public use by end of this year.

"We are delighted to take this first step and become part of the electrification of transport in Denmark, which is one of the sectors emitting the most CO2. In Denmark, we anticipate that the charging stations in Thisted are just the beginning of establishing a network of charging points for both cars and trucks. We see a significant potential", says Country Chair in Denmark Martin Rune Pedersen, and adds: “TotalEnergies brings extensive experience in electric vehicle charging to the Danish market, in line with the company’s commitment to transitioning to future energy sources."

A solid operator experience with charging stations in Europe
With a track record of already operating over 30,000 charging stations in Europe, TotalEnergies has ambitious plans to increase this number fivefold by 2025. The company's extensive experience in renewable energy and e-mobility can support Denmark's official goals of increased electrification and decarbonization of road transport, including lorries and other heavy transport.

Charging stations for electric vehicles is just one of several strategic initiatives supporting TotalEnergies' ongoing transformation to achieve carbon neutrality in all global activities by 2050. The company's portfolio already includes 19 gigawatts of installed capacity in renewable energy, equivalent to powering capacity of 19 million households with an average Danish power consumption. In 2023, TotalEnergies expects to invest more than 30 billion DKK in the future energy sources.
