Total heads towards carbon neutrality in 2050
Energy is at the heart of one of the great challenges of the 21st century: reducing the threat of climate change while enabling the majority of humanity to escape from poverty.
Total wants to meet the challenge of the 21st century and play an active role by transforming into a broad energy company. The aim is to supply as many people as possible globally with more affordable, more available and cleaner energy through a broader energy mix and with a growing focus on renewable energy sources like solar and wind.
As the responsible energy major Total declared its ambition in May 2020 to get to Net Zero, across its production and energy products used by customers by 2050. This will happen in close collaboration with the surrounding societies, and Total is committed to become a top player in areas like low-carbon electricity and LNG.
Total in Denmark is transforming as well
In Denmark Total is Total is the largest operator of oil and gas in the Danish North Sea responsible for 85% of the oil and 97% of the gas production in Denmark. The teams in Copenhagen and Esbjerg are very actively contributing to transition journey focusing on safe and energy efficient operations and carbon footprint reduction.
New opportunities are also being explored and in January it was announced that Total has joined forces with Iberdrola, one of the world’s largest wind power generators, to develop plans for an offshore windfarm in Denmark.
The 50/50 partnership has been pre-qualified by the Danish Energy Agency to submit a bid for the Thor offshore wind farm in the Danish North Sea. Thor will be one of the largest offshore windfarms in the world with a capacity between 800 MW-1,000MW.
