Employees at international energy major Total are gearing up to get involved in their local communities. Every employee is given the opportunity to spend 3 working days per year to volunteer with a local organization.
The initiative is called Action! and it is Total’s way of giving employees the time and resources to contribute more to the local development and make a difference outside of work.
The Action! program is a global initiative and will be deployed in 130 countries. Almost 1500 volunteer assignments have so far been carried out by Total employees.
Making a difference
Following the recent launch of the employee volunteering program across Denmark, all Total employees in the Esbjerg and Copenhagen offices as well as offshore are encouraged to identify good causes which they would like to support – and get involved.
The volunteer assignments can vary in length and purpose, but generally employees are helping out through three types of assignments:
- Helping hand: assignments with no direct link to the volunteer’s professional expertise
- Skill-based: assignments that use the volunteer’s professional skills
- Mentoring: recurring assignments to support young, socially disadvantaged people
At the same time Total will work to set-up partnerships with organizations with an aim of supporting the 4 strategic areas of the company’s social responsibility strategy; Youth Inclusion and Education; Forests and Climate, Road Safety and Cultural Dialogue and Heritage.
The first volunteer assignments have been carried out with three planting for an environmental organization and delivery of Christmas aids for families with limited means around Esbjerg. In 2020 Total’s employees will be invited to volunteer to support the initiative ‘Heading for Goals’ which has a purpose of promoting mental well-being among boys.
